Description: By 1857, the popularity of numismatics in the U.S. had grown and the Mint began to increase its offerings of yearly Proof coinage and marketing them to the general public. The mintages for proofs struck that year were still not officially recorded but based on an estimated 50 to 75 survivors, the Philadelphia Mint appears to have produced perhaps 100 Proof Liberty Seated Dollars in 1857.
