Description: 1856 1C Snow-1b, Copper. Flying Eagle Cent PCGS PR64BN (PHOTO SEAL & CAC) 1856 1C Snow-1b, Copper. Flying Eagle Cent PCGS PR64BN (PHOTO SEAL & CAC) 1856 1C J-181 Cu S-1, BN SKU: 47314553 Choice Proof (13: 4,4,5) BN. Tilted ONE CENT. J-181, Copper. Two examples known. This example is the Tom Fore example. This is an outstanding example with even chocolate brown tone and hardly any marks. Good mirrors. The Tilted ONE CENT reverse is unusual in that the die elements are different than on every other Flying Eagle cent. The ONE CENT was placed within the wreath with a slight tilt so that the base line of the CENT is higher than the left inner leaf and lower than the right inner leaf. Every other example of this reverse shows ONE CENT properly orientated within the wreath. The dies are aligned with the eagle flying upwards, which seems to be the intended orientation early on. In addition to two example in copper, there are about 10 examples of this die pair in copper-nickel. Together these are categorized as Snow-1. The copper issue is designated as Snow-1b. In the Judd reference, these are listed as J-181. The next edition with list this was J-181a, with J-181b being the Snow-3 die pair and J-181c being the Snow-5 die pair and the J-181d being the Snow-9 die pair. The J-181 designation by itself is the copper group regardless of die pair.
