Five parts in one, Old Testament parts 2 and 3, New Testament and Apocrypha have divisional titles and all have separate foliation; NT and Apocrypha titles within wide woodcut historiated borders depicting scenes in connection with the text, the General Title and that before the N.T. shows at the foot Henry VIII presenting a copy of the Bible to the Bishops, black letter, double column, woodcut floriated initials. Fine old vellum binding in excellent condition, five raised bands and decorative blind tooling to boards. Spine reads: "the Bible / Wm. Tyndale / by / Matthews. / 1551. Textually complete with all five original titles. Nine of twenty preliminary leaves called for (two facs.) and the final leaf of the table supplied in fine old facsimile. Compare To: Herbert's Catalogue of Printed Bibles in English, No. 92; STC 2084. First published in 1537, this version "welds together the best work of Tyndale and Coverdale, [and] is generally considered to be the real primary version of our English Bible" (Herbert).
